Ladies
Ancient Order of Hibernians, Inc.
National Irish Historian Patricia A. O’Connell
I am honored to serve as your National LAOH Irish Historian for the 2010-2012 Term. Thank you to all who supported my candidacy at the 95th Biennial AOH-LAOH National Convention held in Cincinnati, OH in July 2010.
Please let me know if I may be of assistance to you as you work to record and maintain your state’s Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Inc. rich history. As we review our Mission in our Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Inc. Official Constitution, we are challenged to:
1. Practice (observe) Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity
2. Work (act) to strengthen our Catholic Faith, our County, and our Communities
3. Perpetuate (disseminate) History, Culture, and Traditions of our Irish Heritage.
As I review the duties if the Irish Historian, I see that there are four (4) major functions that are to
be carried out by the Irish Historian at each level within the Order, namely
1. Complete an Irish History Report at each meeting
2. Record and Maintain the local history at each level within the Order
3. Disseminate information for the National LAOH Irish History Writing Contest
4. Complete the Annual History Forms generated by the National Irish Historian to gather uniform information across all levels within the Order
Annual History Forms
The Irish Historian at each level within the Order is expected to complete the designated Annual History Form. The completed Annual History Forms should be forwarded to the next level by providing both a paper copy form and an electronic “Excel” form. The State Historian should forward a copy of all paper copies and electronic “Excel” forms from each Division, County Board if applicable, and State Board to the National Historian. The completed Annual History Forms should be completed according to the following schedule:
Level
Completion Date
Forward to Next Level
County February 28 State Historian
State March 31 National Historian
These Annual History Report Forms have been created using Excel software. You may save the form on your computer to complete the form. You may access the Annual History Forms using the hperlinks at the end of this section or by going to the Forms and Files Button.
Once these Annual Forms are sent to the National Irish Historian, an electronic file of each state’s annual history will be created to record the history of the Order for the given year. If you have questions as you work with the Annual History Forms, please contact me by phone (H-309-681-0262 or C-309-370-2116) or by email oconnellp407@comcast.net.
